What is social action?

Social action is about mobilising ‘people power’ in communities to bring about positive outcomes in society. The wicked problems facing society today are vastly complex and will require the concerted efforts of many people alongside those working in the public sector. Social action approaches emphasise the importance of redistributing power and control to local people to affect the change they want to see. This may result in local people volunteering their time for causes they support, being involved in campaigning groups or setting up self-help support groups or social enterprises.

Wellbeing Enterprises' roots are firmly placed in communities. We have vast experience co-designing and co-delivering social action projects that empower citizens to lead the change they want to see in their community. Our social entrepreneurship initiatives provide small and larger scale grants and specialist support for local people who would like to develop a community project or business that brings about social outcomes. We have delivered such initiatives on behalf of public sector organisations and in doing so we have been able to mobilise a new generation of changemakers in communities, as well as establishing an ecosystem of self-help support and voluntary organisations which form a lasting legacy.

Wellbeing Enterprises also delivers award winning volunteering schemes, school social action projects and co-production workshops in which citizens, professionals and wider stakeholders can come together to bring about the change they want to see in their community.
