Wellbeing Enterprises and Liverpool School of Medicine Explore the Social Side of Health

Wellbeing Enterprises CIC recently partnered with the Liverpool School of Medicine to deliver a specialist training session exploring the vital role of social and community factors in shaping health and wellbeing.

The interactive session, designed for Community Clinical Teaching colleagues, examined how wider determinants such as housing, employment, and social relationships can affect health outcomes. Participants explored the potential of community-centred approaches and gained practical tools to help future doctors better understand patients’ lives beyond the clinic and connect them with appropriate community support.

James Smith, Business Development Manager at Wellbeing Enterprises CIC, said: “It was a pleasure to work with the School of Medicine to explore how social and community factors can shape health outcomes. By equipping future doctors with practical ways to address wider determinants, we can help ensure patients receive care that truly meets their needs.”

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive.

Dr Geraldine Norton, Community Clinical Tutor and Year 5 GP SAMP Lead, commented: “A brilliant interactive session which really fit with the holistic care we GPs practice (and hope to foster in our teaching). There were practical pointers for encouraging positive change with our patients which I've already started to put into practice.”

Dr Matthew James, Supra-Theme Lead for Patient in the Community Setting at the University of Liverpool, added: “It was a pleasure to welcome James to the School of Medicine to provide valuable insight into the project’s involvement in the local community. Our teaching emphasises the social and psychological determinants of health and the importance of holistic care, and the session supported our educators while demonstrating how this innovative project is making a real difference to people’s lives.”
